Biography
Blake Tollison Shelton was born on June 18, 1976 in Ada, Oklahoma.
Growing up in a working-class family (his father sold used cars and his mother ran a beauty salon), he began performing and writing songs as a teenager.
Shortly after high school (in 1994) he moved to Nashville to pursue a songwriting and performing career.
His breakthrough came in 2001 with the single “Austin”, which became a No. 1 country hit and held that position for five weeks.
Over the years he released a string of successful albums and singles, developing a reputation for blending traditional-country tones with more modern production and crossover appeal.
In 2011, Shelton became a national television figure when he joined the coaching panel of the hit show The Voice (U.S. version). His role on the show significantly increased his mainstream visibility beyond the country-music sphere.
